The Dolly is used here with a spline track.
The virtual track offered by GripTools is much more advanced then the real world one.
You can make a spline of almost any shape, you can use it vertical or with vertical parts and at variable length.
This tutorial demonstrates the use of a midi fader panel to generate the motion.
